How we verify

One rule above all others

Every statement about a parent group, a country of production or a material composition needs a verifiable, linked source. Where we cannot find one, the statement does not appear — not even when “everyone knows” it is true. This rule costs us good stories on a regular basis, and it is the only reason the remaining ones are worth trusting.

We take nothing from videos, forums or memory. A well-known example shows why: the claim that Hugo Boss and Tommy Hilfiger belong together has circulated for years — and it is wrong. Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein belong to PVH Corp.; Hugo Boss is a separately listed company.

Which sources we accept

  • Annual reports and regulatory filings — the most reliable basis for ownership questions.
  • The brand’s own disclosures: supplier lists, production statements, material details on the product page.
  • Trade press with documented reporting (for example Business of Fashion, Textilwirtschaft).
  • Purchases the operator made personally — always labelled as such, because first-hand experience is a different thing from a source.

A portrait, not a test

We do not buy every brand we write about, and we run no laboratory. That is why our brand pages are called “portrait” and not “test”: they gather what is documented and state plainly what cannot be proven. Every brand page carries a block headed “What we can document” — and next to it one that names the limits.

We publish what the documents say, and we name what they leave out.

Images and trademarks

The same rule applies to images as to facts: without documented provenance they do not appear. For every image we record where it came from — an affiliate network’s media library, the brand’s press area, written individual permission, or our own photography. Where that record is missing, the page shows a neutral panel instead of someone else’s picture.

Brand names and logos belong to their respective owners. We name and show them in order to report on the brand and to identify it — not as decoration, and not to imply a relationship. cromavo is independent and has no commercial relationship with the brands featured.

Data ages

Material compositions and prices change without notice. Every such figure therefore carries the date we read it, and the source is archived internally. If you find an outdated figure, write to us — corrections are not a blemish, they are the job.
